Orthopedic Surgery


John Spinoza

14 years old

John lives in Cite Soleil with his single mother and grandmother. Life in Cite Soleil is difficult for him because he is scared of the gun shootings at night and he has heart palpitations when he hears the shootings. He lost his leg during earthquake of January 12, 2010, where a school collapsed on him. This sixth grader walks about 30 km with his crutches everyday to school. Soccer and painting are his passions and he dreams of becoming a great painter in the future.


Monnay Stephanie

9 years old

She lives in Pernier with her single mother. She lives in a tent city, in a plastic shelter, and only gets fed one meal a day. She became an amputee during the earthquake of Jan 12, 2010, when her house suddenly collapsed on her and her mother. Everyday she walks a few kilmoeters on a mountain to go to school. She often travels to and from school without anything to eat. She gets teased at school by other students and feels isolated and neglected. She dreams of becoming a lawyer in the future. She loves going to church and loves Jesus.


Noel Kervens

6 years old

Noel and his four siblings live in a tent city in Cite Soleil with their mother who is separated with their father. He lost his leg during the earthquake of Jan 12, 2010, when a wall fell on him while he was playing with a friend. He goes to school with the money his mother borrows from people. He loves to play soccer with his friends.


Georgeline Jean Louis

Georgeline lives in Pernier with her widowed mother and seven siblings. She lost her leg due to the earthquake of Jan 12, 2010, when the walls in her home fell on her. She does not go to school because her mother cannot pay for her education.


Berline Castra

8 years old

Berline lives in Pernier with her single mother. During the earthquake of Jan 12, 2010, her house collapsed on her as her family was fleeing their home. At school she is laughed at by other children and feels very neglected. Her mother also feels neglected by the people around her. She dreams of becoming a doctor in the future.


Moise

Moise lives in Croix-des-Bouquet orphanage, which DFI is currently supporting. He was found in the trash on the street. He has a mental disability in addition to his physical disability, where his legs are twisted and malformed. He was born with this orthopedic disability and has a spinal injury that has also affected his walking. He is unable to speak properly. He is currently not attending school. DFI understands that his case is one of the most complicated ones, but we have a huge heart for Moise and the orphanage, so we will do as much as we can for his well-being.


Rene Guignard

10 years old

Guignard lives in Delmas with her widowed mother. She lost her leg in the earthquake of Jan 12, 2010, when her house collapsed on her while she was home. She also had a mass near her stomach that was removed when she was baby, but this has affected the way she walks. She is currently in second grade at school. She often comes home from school crying becuase the other kids at school make fun of her. She dreams of becoming a dressmaker in the future.


Jules Chrislove

18 years old

Jules lives in Carrefour with both his mother and father, although they are not married. He has four very helpful siblings. Jules got into a car accident two days before the earthquake, and he was in the operation room when the earthquake happened. The hospital he was at got destroyed during the earthquake. He attends school, where he has lots of friends and those who support him. Jules enjoys his school life. He loves football and playing games.


Richard Redondo

14 years old

Richard lives in Fort Nationale with his mother, who is separated with his father. He lost his leg due to the earthquake, when he was inside the house with his grandmother and little sister. His grandmother and little sister died that day. He attends school and enjoys is very much. He has a lot of friends who help him. He dreams of becoming a doctor or a carpenter in the future.


Anaica Stephie Pierre

7 years old

Anaica lives in Carrefour with her mother, grandmother, and her aunts. She lost her leg during the earthquake. She was in her house when it collapsed on her. She goes to kindergarten, where she has no problems. She gets along with everyone and has friends who help her. She dreams of becoming a doctor in the future.


Casimir Woodley

9 years old

He lives with his mother and four sibilngs. His mother and father are separated currently. Casimir lost his leg during the earthquake. He broke his leg while trying to get out of the house that fell on him. He attends school and enjoys it very much. His friends are a great help to him. He loves watching TV and playing football.
